| THE NATIONAL MONTFORD POINT MARINE ASSOCIATION INC. NC TRIAD-TRIANGLE CHAPTER 38 |
The Montford Table
A Food Security Initiative of the National Montford Point Marine Association, Chapter 38 serving veterans, their families, and neighbors across the Triad and Triangle region of North Carolina.
Our Commitment
The Montford Point Marines earned their place in history through perseverance, sacrifice, and an unshakable devotion to one another. That same spirit guides the work of Chapter 38 today. We believe that no veteran who answered the call to serve should have to wonder where the next meal will come from, and no family carrying the weight of that service should face hunger alone.
The Montford Table is our response to a need that too often goes unseen. It carries the name of the ground where the first Black Marines proved their worth, and it draws on their example of caring for the whole community, one person at a time.
Why This Matters
Food insecurity reaches into the veteran community more deeply than many realize. Research from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows that working age veterans face a greater risk of food insecurity than their nonveteran neighbors, and that risk climbs higher for veterans living with a disability. Families in rural counties, many of which fall within our chapter's service area, encounter added barriers of distance, transportation, and limited access to fresh, affordable food.
Behind every figure is a person: the Marine adjusting to civilian life, the elder veteran living on a fixed income, the caregiver stretching a household budget to its limit. The Montford Table exists to meet each of them with dignity and respect.
What We Aim To Do
The Montford Table is built around a simple belief, that nourishment and community belong together. As the initiative grows, we are working toward the following areas of support:
**Connecting veterans to trusted resources.** We aim to help veterans and their families understand and access the programs already available to them, including SNAP, VA nutrition assistance, and local food banks. Many who qualify for these benefits never enroll, and we want to close that gap.
**Coordinating food distribution.** We are working to build partnerships with regional food banks, pantries, and community organizations so that reliable food access reaches the counties we serve, including those where rural distance makes support harder to find.
**Pairing nourishment with fellowship.** We seek to weave food access into the gatherings our chapter already holds, such as our Veterans Coffee events, so that a warm meal and good company arrive together.
**Meeting urgent needs with care.** For veterans and families facing a sudden gap, we intend to offer a compassionate point of contact and a path toward steady support.
**Raising awareness.** We are committed to bringing attention to veteran food insecurity across our region, so that neighbors, businesses, and leaders understand the need and join us in answering it.
Who We Serve
The Montford Table is open to veterans of all eras and branches, their families, and Gold Star families across the twenty two counties within our chapter's service area. Service to our country takes many forms, and our care extends to all who have carried it.
Requesting Support
If you or a veteran you know is facing food insecurity, we invite you to reach out. Every conversation is held in confidence and treated with respect. There is no shame in asking, and there is always a place for you at this table.

How You Can Help
This work grows through the generosity of our community. There are several meaningful ways to take part:
**Volunteer.** Lend your time at distribution events, help with outreach, or assist neighbors in navigating available resources.
**Give.** Contributions of funds or nonperishable food help us extend support to more veterans and families across the region.
**Partner.** Local businesses, faith communities, farms, and civic organizations are invited to stand with us. Together we can build a network of care that reflects the very best of our shared community.

A Table Set For All Who Served
The Montford Point Marines opened doors that others said could never be opened. In their honor, Chapter 38 works to make certain that those who served, and the families who served alongside them, never stand alone at the end of the day. We invite you to help us keep this table full.
